Mr. Gurbax Singh Malhi (Bramalea-Gore-Malton, Lib.): Mr. Speaker, pursuant to Standing Order 36, I have the privilege to present on behalf of residents of my riding of Bramalea-Gore-Malton a petition signed by more than 100 citizens requesting that Parliament change the Immigration Act to allow landed immigrants to leave Canada for up to two years without having to prove that they did not intend to abandon Canada as their place of permanent residence thus losing their permanent resident status.

Gurbax Singh Malhi (Bramalea-Gore-Malton, Lib.): Monsieur le Président, conformément à l'article 36 du Règlement, j'ai le privilège de présenter, au nom des résidants de ma circonscription de Bramalea-Gore-Malton, une pétition portant plus de 100 signatures. Les pétitionnaires demandent au Parlement de modifier la Loi sur l'immigration, pour permettre aux immigrants admis de s'absenter du Canada pendant une période allant jusqu'à deux ans, sans devoir prouver qu'ils n'ont pas l'intention de quitter définitivement le Canada, ce qui leur fait perdre leur statut de résident permanent.
