Further to the recommendation of the Council and the Opinions of the European Parliament and the Governing Council of the European Central Bank, the Heads of State or Government of the Member States that have adopted the euro have appointed Mr Lucas D. PAPADEMOS Vice-President of the European Central Bank for a term of office of eight years, starting from 1 June 2002.
