Following the 2014 elections to the European Parliament (EP), the seats are distributed between 8 different Parliamentary groups: the EPP - Group of the European People's Party, the SD - Group of the Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats in the European Parliament, the ECR - European Conservatives and Reformists, the ALDE - Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe, the Greens/EFA - Group of Greens/European Free Alliance, the GUE/NGL - European United Left/Nordic Green Left, the EFDD - Europe of Freedom and Direct Democracy Group and the NI - Non-attached Members - Members not belonging to any political group.

– (FR) Mr President, ladies and gentlemen, in connection with the signing of Written Declaration 84/2010, I wish, of course, to thank all my co-signatories: Mrs Bastos of the Group of the European People’s Party (Christian Democrats); Mr Canfin of the Group of the Greens/European Free Alliance; Mrs Vergiat of the Confederal Group of the European United Left – Nordic Green Left; and Mrs Weber of the Group of the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe. Together, we were able to collect a majority of signatures.

The Confederal Group of the European United Left/Nordic Green Left moved an alternative resolution, which was, unfortunately, not accepted, against the Green Paper on pensions and highlighted the potential for improving pensions and retirement ages for the benefit of the workers. This can be done without increasing the age limit, through increased labour rights, especially for young people, better pay and, at the same time, higher taxation on financial capital and financial transactions.
Le groupe confédéral de la Gauche unitaire européenne/Gauche verte nordique a proposé une résolution alternative au livre vert sur les retraites, résolution qui n’a malheureusement pas été acceptée, et qui soulignait le potentiel que représenterait une amélioration des pensions et de l’âge de la retraite au bénéfice des travailleurs, ce qui peut se faire sans reculer la limite d’âge, en renforçant les droits des travailleurs, en particulier ceux des jeunes, en assurant de meilleurs salaires, et en renforçant parallèlement la taxation du capital financier et des transactions financières.
