Global demand has grown by 7 million barrels per day since 2000 of which 2 million barrels have gone to China and, although its oil consumption is currently less than 40% of China's, India's demand for oil is accelerating. Moreover, as both rapidly move from self-sufficiency to integration in the world economy, they grow increasingly dependent on global markets.
