There is a persistent preoccupation with the dress and activities of the opposite sex and repudiation of the individual's own sex. The diagnosis requires a profound disturbance of the normal gender identity; mere tomboyishness in girls or girlish behaviour in boys is not sufficient. The process of how one gets into the program has been clearly defined (1150 ) A decision to admit an applicant to the RCMP SWPP, as it is called, will be based on the following factors: the potential contribution the witness source can make toward a particular police investigation; the nature of the offence under investigation; the nature of the risk to the individual; alternative methods of protection that are available; danger to the community if the individual is admitted to the program; the potential effects on any family relationships; the likelihood of the individual being able to adjust to the program, that is the maturity of that individual, the maturity of their judgment and other personal characteristics, as well as the cost of maintaining the individual in the program; and any other factor the commissioner of the RCMP may deem relevant.
Les modalités de participation à ce programme ont été clairement définies (1150) La décision d'admettre un candidat au programme de protection des sources et des témoins de la GRC dépendra des facteurs suivants: la contribution éventuelle du témoin à une enquête policière précise, la nature de l'infraction faisant l'objet d'une enquête, la nature du risque encouru par le témoin, les autres formes possibles de protection qui existent, le danger pour la collectivité de l'admission du témoin au programme, les effets éventuels sur tout lien familial, la capacité du témoin à s'adapter au programme, c'est-à-dire sa maturité, son jugement et d'autres caractéristiques personnelles, ainsi que le coût de la protection du témoin dans le cadre du programme et tout autre facteur que le commissaire de la GRC estime pertinent.
