I would like to begin by thanking the European Parliament most warmly for awarding me this high honour, the Andrei Sakharov Prize, named after the brilliant physicist and ardent defender of human rights.
Tout d’abord permettez-moi d’exprimer ma gratitude la plus sincère au Parlement européen pour m’avoir attribué cette haute distinction, le prix Andreï Sakharov, physicien génial et défenseur ardent des droits de l’homme.

Mr President, I would like to thank Parliament most warmly for its decisive contribution to this important dossier, which will increase our citizens’ faith in the safety of air transport, and I would like to end by adding that this text as a whole will strengthen the competences of the European Aviation Safety Agency, competences that it exercises in cooperation with the civil aviation authorities of each Member State.
Je remercie, Monsieur le Président, très vivement le Parlement pour sa contribution décisive sur ce dossier important qui augmentera la confiance de nos citoyens sur la sécurité du transport aérien, et j’ajouterai, pour terminer, que l’ensemble de ce texte permettra le renforcement des compétences de l’Agence européenne de sécurité aérienne, compétences qu’elle exerce en coopération avec les directions de l’aviation civile de chacun des États membres.
