We probably should not have called them the Parthenon marbles because these in fact are great works of art. When the Parthenon was originally built there were actually three separate components in the marbles: the sculptures themselves; the frieze, which is probably the greatest number of pieces that are left in the marble collection; and then the pediment statues.

Nous ne devrions probablement pas les appeler les marbres du Parthénon, car il s'agit en fait d'extraordinaires oeuvres d'art. Lorsque le Parthénon a été construit, il y avait trois composantes distinctes des marbres: les sculptures proprement dites, les frises, qui sont probablement les éléments les plus nombreux qui subsistent dans la collection des marbres, et les statues du fronton.
