– (DE) Madam President, Commissioner, Minister, ladies and gentlemen, not all of you heard the C
ouncil Presidency’s impressive speech on climate change, but, just as I have, you will have heard many of its kind, and, since Mr Gabriel, my old friend from our days together in provincial po
litics, is given to plain speaking, I would just like to say that, if it were possible for words to halt climate change in its tracks, the problem would probably be gone by now, but I have to tell both Mr Gabriel and the Commissioner that this situatio
...[+++]n has to be assessed in terms of what is being done about it rather than of what is being said about it.
