Mr. Speaker, we are fortunate in my riding to have a tourism jewel, the Pointe-au-Père Lighthouse National Historic Site.

All the navigable waters, including any foreshore, of St. Mary’s River north of the international boundary line, west of a line drawn due south (true) from the extreme of Partridge Point, and east of a line drawn due south (true) from Pointe aux Pins lighthouse.

Having stood on the grounds of the Pointe d'Amour lighthouse, one of the oldest and most beautiful lighthouses in Atlantic Canada, and seeing it from that location and reading about the abortive attempts to have that linkage between Labrador and Newfoundland, I am certainly aware of the difficulties and the challenges that having these closer links would entail, but it does not mean that we should simply decide that at no point should we have those links.
Ayant foulé les environs du phare de Pointe d'Amour, un des phares les plus anciens et les plus magnifiques du Canada atlantique, l'ayant admiré de cet endroit et ayant lu des documents sur les efforts infructueux pour construire ce lien entre Labrador et Terre-Neuve, je suis certes conscient des difficultés et des défis que ces liens entraîneraient, mais cela ne veut pas dire que nous devrions tout simplement décider de ne pas les construire.
