Whereas, pursuant to subsection 10(1) of the Telecommunications ActFootnote , the Minister of Industry had a copy of the proposed Order Issuing a Direction to the CRTC on Implementing the Canadian Telecommunications Policy Objectives published in the Canada Gazette, Part I, on June 17, 2006, substantially in the annexed form, and a reasonable opportunity was thereby given to interested persons to make representations to the Minister with respect to the proposed Order;

Item No. 10 is a motion that the Subcommittee on Agenda and Procedure be authorized to (1) determine whether any member of the committee is on official business for the purposes of paragraph 8(3)(a) of the Senators Attendance Policy published in the Journals of the Senate on Wednesday, June 3, 1998, and (2) consider any member of the committee to be on official business if that member is (a) attending a function, event, or meeting related to the work of the committee, or (b) making a presentation related to the work of the committee.

10. Stresses that the main asset of the European Union is the availability of various policies and instruments, combined through the ‘comprehensive approach’, and that it is possible to achieve better results at all levels by better integrating the CSDP into this approach; welcomes in this respect the review of the organisation and functioning of the EEAS published by the VP/HR in July 2013, which recognises the problems of coordination and those related to the speed and effectiveness of decision-making in the area of the CSDP; looks forward to specific decisions being taken at the December Summit and expects the further integration of the CSDP to be analysed thoroughly in the upcoming joint Communication by the VP/HR and the Commission on the implementation of the comprehensive approach;

H. whereas on 20 November, in an interview published by the Sunday Times and on 7 December 2011 in an interview with the US network ABC, Syrian President Bashar al-Assad denied that his government had a policy to treat the population harshly and that he felt no guilt about his crackdown on a 10-month uprising, despite reports of brutality by security forces;

However, actions at Community level to improve the flow of consumer information have taken the following forms: - descriptive information about goods and services: this information often appears in the form of labelling and some of the Directives mentioned earlier contain provisions relating to the requirements for such information; - prices surveys : the Commission sponsors comparative studies of prices of certain products as a means of detecting the extent of market segmentation, and to provide a basis for policy decisions; - comparative tests : many consumer associations undertake comparative tests and make the results available to their members: action has been taken . to provide financial assistance to the smaller associations to enable them to undertake such tests; . to stimulate the larger consumer organisations to publish the results of their tests on the basis of the Single Market rather than for each national market separately information and advice centres in trans-frontier regions : a network of 10 such centres has been established, based on existing organisations involved in consumer affairs, with the aim of providing specialist information and advice to consumers undertaking cross-frontier transactions; . the mass media : efforts are being made to improve the coverage of consumer issues, particularly at the Community level, by the mass media; . consumer education : the Commission has cooperated with organisations in Member-States in the development of didactic material, both for use in schools and for adult education.
