The recently established EU-Brazil maritime transport policy dialogue should be further developed with a view to improving the conditions for Brazilian and EU shipping companies, facilitating maritime transport in Brazil and the EU, developing enhanced co-operation between the two sides in all areas of mutual interest, including ports, inland waterway transport, infrastructure and maritime safety, as well as discussing convergence of approaches in international organisations.

Contracting entities referred to in Article 6 of the Zakon o javnoj nabavi (Narodne novine broj 90/11) (Public Procurement Act, Official Gazette No 90/11) which, in accordance with special regulations, engage in the activities relating to the exploitation of a geographical area with the aim of making available sea ports, river ports and other transport terminals to operators in sea or river transport, such as the entities engaging in the said activities in accordance with the Maritime Domain and Seaports Act (Official Gazette 158/03, 100/04, 141/06 and 38/09)’.

The contribution made by the Socialist Group in the European Parliament to the drafting of the overall proposals was aimed in the following two directions: defining ports in the transport sector – not only at the ship/port interface, but acknowledging their functional link with the common transport policy – and asserting the need for inspections by the Commission to guarantee a uniform framework, while respecting the Member States’ authority.
