The President announced that, following a request made on Monday at the opening of the part-session (minutes of 11.9.2017, item 2), he would that day sign a letter to the President of the Commission, Jean-Claude Juncker, asking him to find a way of providing financial aid to the Dutch part of the island of St Martin, which had been devastated by Hurricane Irma.
M. le Président annonce que suite à une demande faite lundi à l'ouverture de la session (point 2 du PV du 11.9.2017) il signera aujourd'hui une lettre à l'intention du Président de la Commission, Jean Claude Juncker, pour lui demander de trouver une solution afin de fournir une aide financière à la partie néerlandaise de l'île de Saint-Martin, dévastée par l'ouragan Irma.

President Juncker stressed that Ukraine had undertaken the reforms asked of them and that he was "convinced that despite the divergences that can exist between certain Member States and the European Parliament we will be able to grant visa liberalisation for Ukraine before the end of the year".

In reaction to the speech, Ann Davison, President of the External relations section of the EESC and a British member of group III, various interests, welcomed the fact that the UK Presidency had asked the Committee to draw up three exploratory opinions (on better regulation, on EU-China relations and on ethical trade initiatives)..

Following that debate, in the light of the substantial progress made on the subject of the information and consultation of workers in the SE, the Presidency had asked the Permanent Representatives Committee to continue examining the text and draw up compromise proposals on the unresolved issues.
