The new anti-terrorist legislation which has entered into force in the United Kingdom while purporting to combat terrorism, in fact contains further violations of fundamental rights such as extending from 14 to 28 days the period of time for which suspected terrorists may be held for questioning, banning the printing or electronic distribution of certain materials, making any expression of support for 'terrorist' organisations an offence, punishing all those who have come into contact with 'terrorists' and other flagrant civil rights violations.
