IN-CONTEXT TRANSLATIONS

As one of this Parliament’s annual human rights rapporteurs earlier during the mandate, and also as the Socialist Group’s Vice-Chair of our Subcommittee on Human Rights, in this debate nearing the end of the five years of this European Parliament, I want to commend to the House what we have achieved.
Alors que nous nous acheminons vers la fin des cinq années de la législature du présent Parlement, en tant qu’ex-rapporteur annuel des droits de l’homme au cours de la présente législature, et également en tant que vice-président socialiste de notre sous-commission «droits de l’homme», je veux faire l’éloge auprès de la présente Assemblée de nos réalisations.

Earlier, while listening closely to the debate, I was looking at a report published by the Human Rights Council on February 9, 2009, about arbitrary detention in Ukraine, as well as a report by a special rapporteur, published in 2008, on freedom of opinion and freedom of expression in Ukraine.
Tout en écoutant attentivement le débat, je consultais tout à l'heure un rapport. The Human Rights Council a publié, le 9 février 2009, un rapport sur la détention arbitraire, ainsi que le rapport, publié en 2008, d'un rapporteur spécial sur la liberté d'opinion et la liberté d'expression encore là sur la situation de l'Ukraine.

I myself had, as rapporteur, originally proposed that, in this specific case, a conditional waiver might be considered, as is provided for in our Rules of Procedure, but – as I mentioned earlier – there is a whole array of peculiarities associated with this case, and these meant that the great majority on the committee saw it as right and proper not to waive immunity in this specific case.
Moi-même, en tant que rapporteur, j’avais proposé dans ce cas concret de prévoir une levée conditionnelle de l’immunité, comme notre règlement le permet. Toutefois, une série de particularités liées à cette affaire - je viens de le dire - a laissé penser à la grande majorité de la commission qu’il était bon, dans ce cas concret, de ne pas lever l’immunité.

The council, as mentioned earlier, will also be presented with the final report of the special rapporteur on the situation on human rights in Myanmar, and Canada will seek to ensure that any follow-up decision taken maintains the pressure on the Burmese regime regarding the human rights situation there.
Comme je l'ai indiqué tout à l'heure, le Conseil recevra aussi le rapport final du rapporteur spécial sur la situation des droits de l'homme au Myanmar et le Canada cherchera à faire en sorte que toute décision relative au suivi maintienne la pression sur le régime birman concernant la situation des droits humains dans ce pays.
