It replaces the following existing committees: the Standing Committee on Foodstuffs, the Standing Committee on Animal Nutrition and the Standing Veterinary Committee.

With regard to foodstuffs, the Commission submitted on 25 July 2001 draft measures establishing maximum levels for dioxins and furans in several foodstuffs for an opinion to the Standing Committee for Foodstuffs.
