Michel Barnier, Commissioner responsible for Regional Policy, has announced the approval by the Commission of a trans-european study-programme on spatial planning to be financed by the Interreg III Community Initiative .
M. Michel Barnier, membre de la Commission européenne responsable de la politique régionale, a annoncé l'approbation par la Commission d'un programme d'étude transeuropéen sur l'aménagement du territoire qui sera financé par l'initiative communautaire Interreg III .

Announcing the decision, Michel Barnier said: "The Commission expects this programme to pursue the work on European spatial planning launched by the "European Spatial Development Perspective".
Annonçant la décision, M. Michel Barnier a déclaré: "La Commission souhaite que ce programme poursuive les travaux sur l'aménagement européen du territoire lancés par le "schéma de développement de l'espace communautaire".

The programme will be carried out by the European Spatial Planning Observatory Network (ESPON) and concerns the fifteen Member States, involving in addition the candidate countries and other neighbouring non-member States.
