In committee, I sensed that the Liberals thought they could manoeuvre their way through this process by sitting out the vote and allowing the bill to pass and that, by doing that, they would not get hurt in the election as a result of what they had done, and then, in the future, if they were to form the government, they would simply revisit the whole issue and bring back the faint hope clause.
Lors du travail en comité, j'ai eu l'impression que les libéraux pensaient qu'en s'abstenant de voter, ce qui a permis l'adoption du projet de loi, ils ne s'exposeraient pas à des sanctions lors d'élections et que, s'ils formaient le gouvernement, ils reviendraient tout simplement sur la question et rétabliraient la disposition de la dernière chance.
