(y) promote conditions for a successful 2010 Review Conference of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT), notably by endorsing and promoting the proposed Model Nuclear Weapons Convention; achieve consensus around the proposed Fissile Material Cutoff Treaty; strive for the adoption by the Conference on Disarmament of a substantive programme of work in order to make that body operational; engage multilaterally and bilaterally with UN Member States in order to relaunch the ratification of the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty; and, finally, encourage further efforts towards the launching of negotiations concerning an Arms Trade Treaty;

The common organisation of the markets in the sugar sector shall seek to pursue the objectives set out in Article 33 of the Treaty, and notably to stabilise the markets, to increase the market orientation of the Community sugar regime and to ensure a fair standard of living for the agricultural community within the sugar sector.

In order to pursue the objectives set out in Article 33 of the Treaty, and notably in order to stabilise the markets and to ensure a fair standard of living for the agricultural community within the sugar sector, it is necessary to fundamentally review the common organisation of the market in the sugar sector.

In so doing, Member States should fully respect Treaty obligations, notably those concerning State Aid, as well as other commitments taken in the EU tax area.

8. INVITES the Commission to incorporate into its Energy Policy those provisions of the ECSC Treaty which have proved their value, notably the support for coal and steel research - even beyond the expiry of the ECSC Treaty - since this research contributes to the objectives assigned to energy policy in the White Paper (see Memorandum of the Consultative Committee on matters linked to the expiry of the ECSC Treaty in 2002 (1)).
8. INVITE la Commission à reprendre dans sa politique énergétique les dispositions utiles du traité CECA, notamment le soutien, au-delà de l'expiration de ce traité, des activités de recherche dans les domaines charbonnier et sidérurgique, qui contribuent aux objectifs que le livre blanc assigne à la politique énergétique [voir mémorandum du Comité consultatif CECA sur les aspects liés à l'expiration du traité CECA en 2002 (1)].

At the date of entry into force of the first enlargement of the Union, notwithstanding Article 157(1) of the Treaty establishing the European Community, Article 9(1) of the Treaty establishing the European Coal and Steel Community and Article 126(1) of the Treaty establishing the European Atomic Energy Community, the Commission shall comprise one national of each of the Member States, provided that, by that date, the weighting of the votes in the Council has been modified, whether by re-weighting of the votes or by dual majority, in a manner acceptable to all Member States, taking into account all relevant elements, notably compensating those Member States which give up the possibility of nominating a second member of the Commission.
