1. On 23 February 2018 an international high-level conference on the Sahel was held in Brussels under the aegis of Mahamadou Issoufou, President of the Republic of Niger and President-in-office of the G5 Sahel, Moussa Faki Mahamat, Chairperson of the African Union Commission, António Guterres, Secretary-General of the United Nations and Jean-Claude Juncker, President of the European Commission, at the end of which the following conclusions were drawn:
1. – (DE) Mr President, Commission Vice-President, President-in-Office of the Council, a word of praise first of all to the French Council Presidency for the fact that we are discussing these subjects together, as they illustrate the balance of the challenge: overcoming a major challenge – terrorism – on the one hand, and data protection on the other. It is a shame that the President-in-Office cannot be present for the whole time.
- (DE) Monsieur le Président, Monsieur le Vice-président de la Commission, Monsieur le Président en exercice du Conseil, permettez-moi tout d’abord d’adresser un mot de louange à la présidence française du Conseil qui nous permet de discuter de ces sujets ensemble, dans la mesure où ils illustrent les deux volets du défi: la lutte contre un grave problème - le terrorisme - d’une part, et la protection des données, de l’autre.

Just to try to explain how many things a Presidency has to do, I will tell you what we have done: we have held over 42 meetings with government representatives of Community countries and candidate countries; we have ended several old disputes which no previous Presidency had resolved; we have chaired 26 Ministerial Council meetings, along with all the work also required from the President-in-Office personally in preparing for these European Councils in the various sectors and in coordinating the Councils themselves; we have adopted 17 regulations and directives; we have concluded three conciliation procedures with the European Parliament, which had been ongoing for some time; we have concluded or signed seven international agreements; we have begun the technical review of the texts adopted by the Convention – all of this involves numerous sittings, and almost always at night, what is more, for the President-in-Office; we have held eight Association and Cooperation Councils, including Armenia, Georgia, Jordan, Tunisia and so on; we have had 10 summits and troikas, and moreover, this very week I am going to China; we have held 30 COREPER meetings, along with all the preparatory meetings; we have had 15 working meetings with representatives of the United States, Russia, the Balkans, Latin America and other countries; lastly, we have held over 800 Council working group meetings.
Pour essayer brièvement d’expliquer à combien de choses la présidence a dû s’atteler, je vais vous dire ce que nous avons fait: nous avons tenu 42 réunions avec les représentants gouvernementaux des pays de l’Union et des pays candidats; nous avons mis fin à de vieux contentieux qu’aucune présidence précédente n’était parvenue à régler; nous avons présidé 26 réunions du Conseil de ministres, en y ajoutant tout le travail que l’on attend du président en exercice du Conseil en personne dans la préparation de ces Conseils européens dans les divers secteurs et dans la coordination de ces Conseils; nous avons adopté 17 règlements et directives; nous avons conclu avec le Parlement européen trois procédures de conciliation qui se prolongeaient depuis quelque temps; nous avons conclu ou signé sept accords internationaux; nous avons entamé l’examen technique des textes adoptés par la Convention - tout cela implique les nombreuses séances, pratiquement toutes nocturnes, du reste, pour le président en exercice du Conseil; nous avons tenu huit Conseils d’association et de coopération, avec entre autres l’Arménie, la Géorgie, la Jordanie, la Tunisie, etc.; nous avons tenu dix sommets et dix troïkas - je me rends en outre en Chine cette semaine; nous avons tenu trente réunions du COREPER, ainsi que toutes les réunions préparatoires; nous avons participé à 15 réunions de travail avec les représentants des États-Unis, de la Russie, des Balkans, de l’Amérique latine et d’autres pays; enfin, nous avons tenu plus de 800 réunions des groupes de travail du Conseil.

– (ES) Madam President, Mr President-in-Office of the Council, Mr President of the Commission, ladies and gentlemen, first of all I should like to thank the President-in-Office for coming to Parliament for the second time and giving such a clear and concise presentation.

(4) The challenges of production, distribution and availability of European audiovisual content were the main topics discussed at the Forum on Audiovisual Policy entitled "European content for the digital millennium", organised in Helsinki on 10 and 11 September 1999 by the Presidency-in-office in cooperation with the Commission.
