This is the continuation of the successful Aid Programme promoting the economic development of the Turkish Cypriot community, improving contacts between the two communities and bringing the Turkish Cypriots closer to the EU.

Since 2006, the EU has invested €400 million under the Aid Programme for the Turkish Cypriot community to support local small businesses, develop or improve key infrastructures, support student mobility and prepare the Turkish Cypriot community for the implementation of the EU body of laws in the perspective of the reunification of Cyprus.
Depuis 2006, l’Union européenne a investi 400 millions d’euros au titre du programme d’aide en faveur de la communauté chypriote turque afin de soutenir les petites entreprises locales, de développer ou d’améliorer des infrastructures clés, de soutenir la mobilité des étudiants et de préparer la communauté chypriote turque à la mise en œuvre de l’ensemble des textes législatifs de l’Union dans la perspective de la réunification de Chypre.

This process should be facilitated through the economic development of the Turkish Cypriot community and this is why we fund projects which contribute to bringing the two Cypriot communities closer together".

Since 2006, the Commission has invested in an Aid Programme for the Turkish Cypriot Community to facilitate the unification of Cyprus by encouraging the economic development of the Turkish Cypriot community, with particular emphasis on the economic integration of the island, on improving contacts between the two communities and with the EU, and on preparation for the EU acquis following a comprehensive solution of the Cyprus problem.
Depuis 2006, la Commission consacre temps, efforts et ressources dans le cadre du programme d'aide en faveur de la communauté chypriote turque afin de faciliter l'unification de Chypre en encourageant le développement économique de cette communauté, l'accent étant mis en particulier sur l'intégration économique de l'île, l'amélioration des contacts entre les deux communautés et avec l'UE et la préparation en vue de la mise en œuvre de l'acquis dans le sillage d'une solution globale du problème chypriote.

President Juncker also met Turkish Cypriot leader Mustafa Akıncı to discuss, amongst other issues, how the Commission can better help the Turkish-Cypriot Community to prepare for the period after the settlement of the Cyprus issue.

Turkey has continued to express public support for the negotiations under UN auspices between the leaders of the Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot communities to reach a comprehensive settlement of the Cyprus problem.
