Commends the Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA) of oil exploration/ exploitation in the Northern Albertine Rift region, including in the VNP; considers that, on the basis of that assessment, the governments concerned, including the DRC Government, should be able to take informed decisions based on proper analysis of the impact of oil exploration and exploitation; regrets, however, that the SEA process has been greatly delayed and that oil exploration has already started in the VNP, even though the SEA process has not yet been finalised;
8. se félicite de la réalisation de l'évaluation environnementale stratégique sur l'exploration/exploitation pétrolière dans le Rift Albertin en RDC, qui couvre également le parc national des Virunga; considère que, sur la base de cette évaluation, les gouvernements concernés, dont le gouvernement de la RDC, devraient être en mesure de prendre des décisions avisées en s'appuyant sur une analyse rigoureuse des répercussions de la prospection et de l'exploitation pétrolières; regrette toutefois que l'évaluation stratégique ait pris un important retard et que des travaux d'exploration aient été entrepris dans le parc avant son achèvement;
