I think your central approach should be to go out of your way to say that we are wasting much too much here, that half the expenditure combined with the necessary efficiency could often achieve more and that in the matter of transparency in particular we could learn from the country you so much like to talk about, the US with its Freedom of Information Act; because we learn one thing here very quickly: there is no democracy without transparency, and that is why I hope that after your period of office we will again be able to say: ‘Come on, Portugal!’
Je pense que votre approche centrale devrait consister à faire l’effort de dire que nous gaspillons trop ici, que réduire les dépenses de moitié en étant plus efficaces pourrait souvent être plus rentable et qu’en matière de transparence en particulier nous pourrions nous inspirer du pays dont vous aimez tant parler, les États-Unis, avec leur loi sur la liberté de l’information; parce qu’ici il y a une chose que nous apprenons très rapidement: il n’y a pas de démocratie sans transparence, et c’est pourquoi j’espère qu’à la fin de votre mandat nous pourrons à nouveau dire: «Allez, le Portugal!»
