During the preliminary investigations, telephone intercepts were carried out in accordance with the provisions of the Italian Code of Criminal Procedure. The calls intercepted included conversations between the persons under investigation and a number of Italian members of parliament, including Massimo D'Alema, who was a Member of the European Parliament at the time.
