The EESC considers respect for both religious and civil freedoms to be basic human rights that should be fully protected in a region characterised by religious and political diversity, and calls on the countries that have not yet ratified the existing universal and regional conventions and agreements on political, civil and cultural freedoms, and on economic and social rights, which are based on the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, to do so without delay.
Le CESE est d'avis que dans une région qui présente une forte diversité religieuse et politique, le respect des libertés tant religieuses que civiles constitue un droit humain fondamental qu'il convient de protéger pleinement. Except for cases of special urgency as defined in Article 96(2)(b) of the Agreement, consultations under Article 96 may also go ahead without preceding intensified political dialogue, when there is persistent lack of compliance with commitments taken by one of the Parties during an earlier dialogue, or by a failure to engage in dialogue in good faith.
