More needs to be done to ensure greater mainstreaming of disability considerations, not just into the world of work but into all areas of public life. More also needs to be done to ensure sustainable progress and real momentum.

Gender mainstreaming as a political strategy is intended to assist in achieving this ambitious objective. This also follows on from the definition of the Beijing Platform for Action, under which gender mainstreaming is intended to further the development, organisation and evaluation of political measures and decision-making processes so that the initial position and the impact on men and women is taken into consideration in all areas of policy and at all levels, with a view to working towards the objective of genuine equality for men and women.
