Pursuant to Article 16(9) of Directive 2000/60/EC, the Commission shall, within two years, draw up a strategy against pollution of water by pharmaceutical substances.

That objective is met by establishing the chargeable unit on the basis of the active substance(s) and the pharmaceutical form of the medicinal products that are subject to the obligation to be registered in the database referred to in point (l) of the second subparagraph of Article 57(1) of Regulation (EC) No 726/2004, based on information from the list of all medicinal products authorised in the Union referred to in Article 57(2) thereof.

In the framework of that strategic approach, the Commission shall, where appropriate, by 14 September 2017 propose measures to be taken at Union and/or Member State level, as appropriate, to address the possible environmental impacts of pharmaceutical substances, particularly those referred to in Article 8b(1), with a view to reducing discharges, emissions and losses of such substances into the aquatic environment, taking into account public health needs and the cost-effectiveness of the measures proposed.
In het kader van die strategische aanpak doet de Commissie, indien passend, uiterlijk op 14 september 2017 een voorstel voor op het niveau van de Unie en/of de lidstaten, te nemen maatregelen met betrekking tot de mogelijke milieu-effecten van farmaceutische stoffen, in het bijzonder die bedoeld in artikel 8 ter, lid 1, met het doel de lozingen, emissies of verliezen van dergelijke stoffen in het aquatische milieu te verminderen, daarbij rekening houdend met de behoeften van de volksgezondheid en de kosteneffectiviteit van de voorgestelde maatregelen.

Pursuant to Article 16(9) of Directive 2000/60/EC, and where appropriate on the basis of the outcome of its 2013 study on the risks posed by medicinal products in the environment and of other relevant studies and reports, the Commission shall, as far as possible within two years from 13 September 2013 develop a strategic approach to pollution of water by pharmaceutical substances.

Furthermore, the use of pharmaceuticals containing pharmacologically active ingredients not on "the essential" substances list or the "positive list" for equidae referred to in Article 10(3) of Directive 2001/82/EC and not administered intra-muscularly or subcutaneously, shall have a nominal withdrawal period of six months if deemed of clinical benefit.
Voorts heeft het gebruik van farmaceutische producten die farmacologisch werkzame ingrediënten bevatten die niet op de lijst van "essentiële" stoffen of de "positieve lijst" voor equidae voorkomen zoals vermeld in artikel 10, lid 3, van Richtlijn 2001/82/EG, en die niet intramusculair of onderhuids worden toegediend, een nominale wachttijd van zes maanden wanneer dit medisch baat oplevert.
