IN-CONTEXT TRANSLATIONS

I. whereas respect for and promotion of democracy and human rights (particularly children’s, women’s and minority rights), justice and the rule of law, fundamental freedoms (including freedom of speech, conscience, religion or belief and association), free and independent media (including unrestricted access to information, communication and the internet), the strengthening of civil society, security (including peaceful conflict resolution and good neighbourly relations), democratic stability, prosperity, the fair distribution of income, wealth and opportunities, social cohesion, the fight against corruption and the promotion of good governance and sustainable development are all founding principles and aims of the EU which must always constitute common values at the core of the ENP;

Armenia continued democratic reforms but decided to put on hold preparations for the conclusion of an Association Agreement including a Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area (DCFTA) and not to initial it.

Encourages the initialisation of the Association Agreement, including the DCFTA, at the Vilnius summit, and hopes to see a speedy conclusion of the visa dialogue; recognises the important impact that the implementation of the Association Agreement, free trade and visa-free travel will have on the reform process in Moldova; notes, in this regard, that the most recent political crises have revealed the fragility of the democratisation process conducted so far, and stresses the need to work towards building truly credible independent democratic institutions;

In particular, the summit with Ukraine should bring progress to the negotiations on the Association Agreement, including the deep and comprehensive Free Trade Agreement, and highlight the role of the EU in the economic and democratic reforms of this important neighbour.
De topbijeenkomst met Oekraïne moet meer in het bijzonder vooruitgang brengen in de onderhandelingen over de associatieovereenkomst, inclusief de diepgaande en brede vrijhandelsovereenkomst, alsmede de rol van de EU in de economische en democratische hervormingen van dit belangrijke buurland tot haar recht laten komen.

The EU considers freedom of expression and freedom of association fundamental democratic rights which only serve a purpose if the people can exert these rights free from fear and intimidation.

Considers that, while it is important that the Euro-Arab relationship include consideration of the need to combat terrorism, it is vital for the effectiveness and substance of that relationship that the fight against terrorism does not overshadow or hold back a host of other topics of common interest, such as economic and social development, employment, sustainable development, proper public administration, the fight against corruption, the development and consolidation of a strong and genuine civil society as the promoter of advances in terms of the democratic system and of tolerance, the fight for gender equality, conservation of the global cultural heritage, inter-cultural dialogue, good governance, free and fair media, political participation and the promotion of human rights and fundamental freedoms, freedom of conscience including religious freedom, freedom of expression and association, the rejection of torture and the abolition of the death penalty, and the rejection of intolerance and fundamentalism, with a view to creating a genuine area of shared peace and prosperity;

The proposed Association Agreement will result in closer political relations based on respect for human rights and democratic principles, the gradual establishment of a free-trade area, the strengthening of economic and financial cooperation, and the promotion of regional cooperation.
De voorgestelde associatie-overeenkomst zal gestalte krijgen in nauwere politieke betrekkingen, gebaseerd op de eerbiediging van de mensenrechten en de naleving van de democratische beginselen, de geleidelijke instelling van een vrijhandelszone, de versterking van de financieel-economische samenwerking en de bevordering van de regionale samenwerking.
