They shall be duly authorised to audit accounts under the law applicable in the Member State in which they have their seat .

2. In processing personal data pursuant to this Regulation, the European political parties and the European political foundations, the Member States competent for exercising control over aspects related to the financing of European political parties and European political foundations in accordance with Article 24 and the independent bodies or experts authorised to audit accounts in accordance with Article 23(1) shall comply with Directive 95/46/EC and the national provisions adopted pursuant thereto.

4. The Member States and independent bodies or experts authorised to audit accounts shall use the personal data they receive only in order to exercise control over the financing of European political parties and European political foundations.

8. The European political parties and the European political foundations, the Member States and the independent bodies or experts authorised to audit accounts under this Regulation shall be liable in accordance with applicable national law for any damage they cause in the processing of personal data pursuant to this Regulation.

The accounting information given in the annual report shall be audited by one or more persons empowered by law to audit accounts in accordance with Directive 2006/43/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council of 17 May 2006 on statutory audits of annual accounts and consolidated accounts (26).

The accounting information given in the annual report shall be prepared in accordance with the accounting standards or principles required by the applicable AIF rules or instruments of incorporation or formation and audited by one or more persons empowered by law to audit accounts in accordance with Directive 2006/43/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council of 17 May 2006 on statutory audits of annual accounts and consolidated accounts.
3.
