In this context, Community policies should reinforce programmes such as the financial instruments of the CIP (competitiveness and innovation Programme) or JEREMIE (Joint european resources for micro to medium size enterprises), both operated by the European Investment Fund (EIF), to better meet the Lisbon objectives and support the development of innovative SMEs across the EU. The scope of the CIP financial instruments should also be extended to technology transfer activities (pre-seed and seed) to bridge the gap between research and its commercialisation.
