TRADUCTIONS EN CONTEXTE

A. whereas caste denotes a socio-religious context, as in Asia, where those who fall outside the caste system are considered ‘impure’ and ‘untouchable’ by nature, but also, more broadly, a system of rigid social stratification into ranked groups defined by descent and occupation; whereas discrimination based on work and descent, being the more encompassing term preferred by the UN, is a form of discrimination prohibited by international human rights law as proclaimed in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights, the CERD, the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women, the Convention on the Rights of the Child and International Labour Organisation Convention No 111;
A. overwegende dat de term kaste verwijst naar een sociaal-religieuze context, zoals in Azië, waar wie buiten het kastensysteem valt wordt beschouwd als van nature onzuiver en onaanraakbaar, maar in een ruimere betekenis ook staat voor een strikt sociaal klassenstelsel waarbij bevolkingsgroepen worden gerangschikt naar afkomst en beroep; overwegende dat discriminatie op grond van werk en afkomst, de ruimere term die door de VN bij voorkeur wordt gehanteerd, verboden is uit hoofde van de internationale mensenrechtenwetgeving, met name de Universele Verklaring van de Rechten van de Mens, het Internationaal Verdrag inzake burgerrechten en politieke rechten, het Internationaal Verdrag inzake economische, sociale en culturele rechten, het Internationaal Verdrag inzake de uitbanning van alle vormen van rassendiscriminatie, het Verdrag inzake de uitbanning van alle vormen van discriminatie van vrouwen, het Verdrag inzake de rechten van het kind en Verdrag nr. 111 van de Internationale Arbeidsorganisatie;

– having regard to international human rights conventions, including the International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination (CERD) and General Recommendation XXIX of the Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination,
– gezien internationale mensenrechtenverdragen zoals het Internationaal Verdrag inzake de uitbanning van alle vormen van rassendiscriminatie en algemene aanbeveling XXIX van de Commissie voor de uitbanning van rassendiscriminatie,

– having regard to the UN instruments on violence against women, notably the Vienna Declaration and Programme of Action of 25 June 1993 adopted by the World Conference on Human Rights (A/CONF.157/23), the reports by the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights’ Special Rapporteurs on violence against women, General Recommendation No 19 adopted by the Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW) (11th session, 1992), the Declaration on the Elimination of Violence against Women of 20 December 1993 (A/RES/48/104), the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women, and the International Convention for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination (CERD) and General Recommendation XXIX on Article 1(1) thereof,
– gezien de VN-instrumenten inzake geweld tegen vrouwen, met name de Verklaring van Wenen en het bijbehorende actieprogramma, aangenomen op de wereldconferentie over de mensenrechten op 25 juni 1993 (A/CONF.157/23), de verslagen van de speciale rapporteurs van de hoge commissaris van de mensenrechten van de VN over geweld tegen vrouwen, algemene aanbeveling nr. 19 van het Comité voor de uitbanning van discriminatie van vrouwen (CEDAW) (11 vergadering, 1992), de verklaring over de uitbanning van geweld tegen vrouwen van 20 december 1993 (A/RES/48/104), het Verdrag inzake de uitbanning van alle vormen van discriminatie van vrouwen en het Internationaal Verdrag inzake de uitbanning van alle vormen van rassendiscriminatie (CERD) en algemene aanbeveling XXIX bij artikel 1, lid 1, van dat verdrag,

– having regard to the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR), the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights (ICESCR), the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination (CERD) and the Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC), to all of which Iran is a party,
– gezien het Internationaal Verdrag inzake burgerrechten en politieke rechten, het Internationaal Verdrag inzake economische, sociale en culturele rechten, het Verdrag voor de uitbanning van alle vormen van rassendiscriminatie en het Verdrag inzake de rechten van het kind, die alle door Iran zijn ondertekend,

To ensure their protection under international law, the United Nations adopted thematic legally binding instruments such as the Convention on the Elimination of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW), the Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC), and the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination (CERD).
Om die bevolkingsgroepen door internationaal recht te beschermen, keurden de Verenigde Naties wettelijk bindende thematische instrumenten goed, zoals de conventie inzake de uitbanning van alle vormen van discriminatie tegen vrouwen, de conventie van de rechten van het kind en de conventie inzake de uitbanning van alle vormen van rassendiscriminatie.
