The direct financial contribution paid to Cape Verde (in the three years of the Protocol's original duration) stood at around EUR 2 040 000 (around 225 million Cape Verde escudos).

(7) Whereas this agreement is unlikely to have any material effect on the monetary and exchange rate policy of the euro area; whereas in its present form and state of implementation this agreement therefore is unlikely to present any obstacle to a smooth functioning of Economic and Monetary Union; whereas nothing in this agreement can be construed as implying an obligation for the ECB or any NCB to support the convertibility of the Cape Verde escudo; whereas modifications to the existing agreement shall not lead to any obligation for the ECB or any NCB;
(7) Overwegende dat het onwaarschijnlijk is dat deze overeenkomst concrete gevolgen zal hebben voor het monetaire en wisselkoersbeleid van de eurozone; dat het derhalve onwaarschijnlijk is dat deze overeenkomst in haar huidige vorm en stadium van tenuitvoerlegging, een belemmering zal vormen voor een soepele werking van de Economische en Monetaire Unie; dat niets in deze overeenkomst kan worden opgevat als een verplichting van de Europese Centrale Bank of de nationale centrale banken om de converteerbaarheid van de Kaapverdische escudo te ondersteunen; dat wijzigingen van de bestaande overeenkomst niet zullen leiden tot enige verplichting van de Europese Centrale Bank of de nationale centrale banken;

The Council adopted a Decision concerning exchange rate matters relating to the Cape Verde escudo.

Upon the substitution of the euro for the Portuguese escudo, the Portuguese Republic may continue its present agreement concerning exchange rate matters with the Republic of Cape Verde.
