The Candidate Countries Turkey, the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia*, Montenegro*, Serbia* and Albania*, the country of the Stabilisation and Association Process and potential candidate Bosnia and Herzegovina, and the EFTA countries Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway, members of the European Economic Area, as well as Ukraine, the Republic of Moldova, Armenia, Azerbaijan and Georgia, align themselves with this declaration.* The former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, Montenegro, Serbia and Albania continue to be part of the Stabilisation and Association Process.

(G) Whereas most of the redundancies (90 %) are concentrated in Attica and Central Macedonia whilst about 10 % of the redundancies occurred in the region of Thessaly; whereas in Q4 2013, the unemployment rate in Attica (28.2 %) and Central Macedonia (30.3 %) was above the national average (27.5 %);

D. whereas Greece has requested assistance in respect of a case concerning 642 redundancies in two enterprises in the retail sector (‘supermarket and supplier’) operating in the regions of Central Macedonia and Attica where the greatest number of ALDI stores were located. Smaller numbers of ALDI redundancies also occurred in other Greek regions, such as Eastern Macedonia-Thrace, Western Macedonia, Epirus, Western Greece, Sterea Ellada and Peloponnese. Of the 642 redundancies, 554 occurred during the reference period, and 88 occurred before the reference period, but are eligible for assistance according to Article 3a(b) of Regulation (EC) No 1927/2006. All 642 redundant workers are targeted for EGF assistance,

The Greek border regions "Eastern Macedonia - Thrace" and "Central Macedonia", are eligible for Objective 1 funds.

In the period 2000-2006, a total of EUR 16 billion are available to Objective 1 and 2 areas adjacent to candidate countries in Germany (Bavaria, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Sachsen, Brandenburg and Berlin), Austria (Burgenland, Steiermark, Oberösterreich, Niederösterreich and Kärnten), Greece (Eastern Macedonia-Thrace, Central Macedonia, the Northern and Southern Aegean regions as well as Crete), Italy (Fruili-Venezia Guilia and Veneto) and Finland (Uusimaa and Etelä-Suomi).

(16) In the light of the scope of this Regulation, consequent changes will need to be made to Council Regulation (EEC) No 3906/89 of 18 December 1989 on economic aid to certain countries of Central and Eastern Europe (PHARE)(7), to Council Decision 97/256/EC of 14 April 1997 granting a Community guarantee to the European Investment Bank against losses under loans for projects outside the Community (Central and Eastern European countries, Mediterranean countries, Latin American and Asian countries, South Africa, the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia and Bosnia and Herzegovina)(8), to Council Decision 1999/311/EC adopting the third phase of the trans-European cooperation scheme for higher education (Tempus III) (2000 to 2006)(9) and to Council Regulation (EEC) No 1360/90 of 7 May 1990 establishing a European Training Foundation(10).
(16) Gezien de werkingssfeer van deze verordening, dienen derhalve te worden gewijzigd: Verordening (EEG) nr. 3906/89 van de Raad van 18 december 1989 betreffende economische hulp ten gunste van bepaalde landen in Midden- en Oost-Europa(7), Besluit 97/256/EG van de Raad van 14 april 1997 tot verlening van een garantie van de Gemeenschap voor verliezen van de Europese Investeringsbank op leningen voor projecten buiten de Gemeenschap (landen in Midden- en Oost-Europa, mediterrane landen, landen in Azië en Latijns-Amerika, Zuid-Afrika, de Voormalige Joegoslavische Republiek Macedonië, en Bosnië-Herzegovina)(8), Besluit 1999/311/EG van de Raad van 29 april 1999 tot goedkeuring van de derde fase van het trans-Europees Mobiliteitsprogramma voor hoger onderwijs (Tempus III) (2000-2006)(9), en Verordening (EEG) nr. 1360/90 van de Raad van 7 mei 1990 tot oprichting van een Europese Stichting voor opleiding(10).
