g. to encourage new parties to join the TiSA negotiations, even if the talks already include countries such as the EU, USA and Japan, which are responsible for the bulk of world trade in financial services; to pursue, in order to deliver very substantial results for the EU, in-depth commitments (in particular on market access) from countries that currently have no bilateral trade deals with the EU, such as Australia, New Zealand, Hong Kong and Taiwan, a very limited commitment at multilateral level, for example Chile and Turkey, or very limited bilateral commitments on financial services, such as Mexico;

I have a more specific question: on 4 February 2010, a meeting of the WTO’s Committee on Trade in Financial Services was held, and it focused specifically on the challenges presented by the financial crisis and the liberalisation of financial services.

Calls on both sides to acknowledge the linkages of trade policy with the prospects of achieving global financial stability and a fair currency exchange alignment among the main economies; recommends to both sides to work together in the appropriate multilateral settings in achieving more sustainable global trade balances, including through measures discouraging aggressive export-orientation, binding international social standards, a redefinition of the anti-dumping rules to include the dimension of environmental dumping, the elaboration of criteria and limits for the liberalization of trade in financial services, a ban on all agricultural export subsidies, and criteria for foreign investment in the food and distribution sectors;

Three years after the entry into force of this Agreement the Special Committee on Financial Services shall consider actions with the aim of facilitating and expanding trade in financial services and further contributing to the objectives of this Agreement, and shall report to the Association Committee.
