This Regulation provides for a Community classification scale for the carcasses of adult bovine animals.

F. whereas it is stated in the above-mentioned Commission Communication that 'the existing labelling classifications will be upgraded and re-scaled every 5 years or when new technological developments justify it, based on eco-design studies, with a view to reserve A-label status for the top 10-20 % best performing equipment',

A Community grading scale for the classification of carcasses of adult bovine animals should be applied for recording prices and for intervention in the beef and veal sector.

Regulation (EEC) No 2137/92 provides that on-the-spot inspections are to be carried out by a Community inspection group, in order to ensure the uniform application of the Community scale for classification in the Community.

1. The market price to be established on the basis of the Community scale for the classification of carcases of ovine animals referred to in Article 7(1) of Regulation (EEC) No 2137/92 shall be the price at entry to the slaughterhouse, net of value-added tax paid to the supplier for lamb of Community origin.

2. This Regulation shall apply without prejudice to Council Regulation (EC) No 1183/2006 of 24 July 2006 concerning the Community scale for the classification of carcasses of adult bovine animals 1 .
