In addition to these exchanges, there are various other forms of bilateral cooperation between the Union and Japan in specific fields of science. A by no means exhaustive list would include : - on nuclear energy, the Community is collaborating with the Japanese Atomic Energy Research Institution (JAERI) on nuclear materials safeguards and with the Radiation Research Foundation on radiation protection;

...[+++]g exchanges with the Environment Agency on CH2 and N2O, two greenhouse gases; also the Commission and Japan are in regular contact to coordinate international research on global climate change; - together with the MITI, the Commission is providing support for the "Company of the Future" project in which European and Japanese research centres are cooperating on methods of managing RD in information technology companies; - the different Institutes of the Community's Joint Research Centre (JRC) have joined their Japanese counterparts in a variety of research activities in addition to those mentioned above.
