Draws attention to the problematic situation in a number of candidate countries with regard to children, particularly street children, for example in Romania, which have arisen directly from the disappearance and non-existence of social safety nets, as the families from which they come are no longer financially able to provide parental care; calls on the Commission, therefore, in addition to the efforts it has already made, to seek once again to instigate improvements in the lot of these children, many of whom drift into a world of child prostitution, drugs, crime, etc.;
8. wijst met name op de problematische situatie in een aantal kandidaat-landen ten aanzien van (zwerf)kinderen o.a. in Roemenië, die het directe gevolg is van het wegvallen van en het gebrek aan socialezekerheidsnetten daar het gezin waaruit ze kwamen niet meer in staat is financieel de ouderlijke zorg op zich te nemen; verzoekt daarom de Commissie boven de inspanningen die zij zich al getroost heeft, nogmaals te proberen aanzetten te geven ter verbetering van het lot van deze kinderen, die vaak belanden in een milieu van kinderprostitutie, drugs, criminaliteit, etc.;
