Calls on the Commission to carry out a socio-economic assessment of deep-sea fisheries and an analysis of the impact that new fishing effort reductions will have on the industry, as well as the impact of continued depletion of the fish stocks that the fisheries depends on; points out that it is crucial to strike a balance between socio-economic needs and environmental sustainability;
10. verzoekt de Commissie de sociaaleconomische aspecten van de visserij op diepzeesoorten te evalueren en te bekijken welke gevolgen nieuwe beperkingen van de visserijinspanning voor de sector zouden hebben en wat de gevolgen zijn van de voortdurende uitputting van de visbestanden waarvan de visserij afhankelijk is; wijst erop dat absoluut een evenwicht gevonden moet worden tussen de sociaaleconomische eisen en de duurzaamheid van het milieu;

Where the Commission finds, on the basis of advice from ICES and following agreement on that advice by the Scientific Technical and Economic Committee for Fisheries (STECF), that for two consecutive years the target level for any cod stock concerned has been reached, the Council shall decide by qualified majority on a proposal from the Commission to remove that stock from the scope of this Regulation and to establish a management plan for that stock in accordance with Article 6 of Regulation (EC) No 2371/2002.
Wanneer de Commissie vaststelt, zich daarbij baserend op een advies van de ICES waarmee het Wetenschappelijk, Technisch en Economisch Comité voor de visserij (WTECV) zich eens heeft verklaard, dat het streefniveau voor een van de betrokken kabeljauwbestanden twee jaar na elkaar is bereikt, besluit de Raad op voorstel van de Commissie bij gekwalificeerde meerderheid om dat bestand uit de werkingssfeer van deze verordening te halen en een beheersplan voor dit bestand vast te stellen overeenkomstig artikel 6 van Verordening (EG) nr. 2371/2002.
