14. Endorses the Commission’s proposal to adopt the definition of active and healthy ageing as formulated by the WHO; emphasises that active and healthy ageing encompasses the entire lifespan and that the particularities of the EU context should be part of the definition, including, more specifically, the EU priorities regarding healthy and ecologically sustainable environmental conditions, health awareness, health prevention and early screening followed by appropriate diagnosis and effective treatment, health literacy, eHealth, physical exercise, food safety and adequate nutrition, gender equality, social security systems (including healthcare and health insurance), and social protection schemes; notes that old age is not linked to disease and illness by default, and is therefore not to be associated or equated with dependence and handicap;

I believe that this approach, which I discuss in this report and which I hope will be endorsed during the vote that is due to take place in the Brussels part-session, will enable agriculture in Europe to enter a new phase of sustainability and to make the transition to a more environmentally aware state which would place it ahead of a number of other continents and other agricultural systems.
Ik ben van mening dat de Europese landbouw met een dergelijke aanpak, die ik in dit verslag bespreek, en die hopelijk steun zal krijgen bij de stemming tijdens de vergadering in Brussel, een nieuwe fase in kan gaan wat betreft duurzaamheid, en de transitie kan maken naar een meer milieubewuste vorm van landbouw.

41. Is aware of the increasing interest in the exploitation of resources; in that regard points out the need for broad all-encompassing ecosystem-based approaches as most likely to be capable of dealing with the multiple challenges facing the Arctic related to climate change, shipping, environmental hazards and contaminants, fisheries and other human activities, along the lines of the EU's Integrated Maritime Policy or Norway's Integrated Management Plan for the Barents Sea and the sea areas of the Lofoten Islands; recommends the Member States to endorse the revised Arctic Council Offshore Oil and Gas Guidelines of 2009;
41. is zich bewust van de toenemende belangstelling voor de exploitatie van hulpbronnen; wijst in dat verband op de noodzaak van een brede, allesomvattende benadering gebaseerd op het ecosysteem als de benadering die hoogstwaarschijnlijk het meest geschikt is om de vele uitdagingen het hoofd te bieden waarmee het Noordpoolgebied wordt geconfronteerd met betrekking tot de klimaatverandering, de scheepvaart, de gevaren voor het milieu en verontreiniging, de visserij en andere menselijke activiteiten, overeenkomstig het geïntegreerd maritiem beleid van de EU of het Noorse geïntegreerd beheersplan voor de Barentszzee en de zeegebieden van de Lofoten; beveelt de lidstaten aan de herziene richtlijnen uit 2009 voor offshore olie- en gasboringen (Offshore Oil and Gas Guidelines) van de Arctische Raad te bekrachtigen;
