* The Supply Chain Management initiative of EICTA (European Information and Communications Technology Industry Association) has the objective of developing a common European supply chain management approach for the electronics industry, simplifying data collection for both the requestor and the supplier whilst driving environmental improvements in supplied items.

It also seeks to ensure that the European steel industry can compete globally and develop the next generation of steel products that are vital for other key European industries such as the automotive, construction, electronics, mechanical and electrical engineering industries.

3. To continue and extend activities to encourage support for networking and advisory services with a European dimension, such as the help-desk on innovation financing (LIFT), activities to facilitate interfacing at European level between researchers, industry and investors, the existing network of regions of excellence for the creation of enterprises, new networks of European universities and public research centres to promote knowledge diffusion and best practices in technology transfer, and development of a European electronic directory of innovative start-ups (see Objective 3: Encourage the creation and growth of innovative enterprises, and Objective 4: Improve key interfaces in the innovation system).
3. After growth averaging 5% per year since 2000, the European electronics industry today employs 200 000 people directly and supports one million jobs indirectly; there is further unmet demand for skilled workers.
