TRADUCTIONS EN CONTEXTE

Predominantly carried out on the International Space Station (ISS), the European space research programme in life and physical sciences addresses fundamental questions and has the potential to produce useful applications on Earth, while laying the foundation for future human planetary exploration.

The implementation will, where appropriate, be based on strategic research agendas developed in consultation with the Member States and National Space Agencies, ESA, stakeholders from European space industry (including SMEs), academia, technology institutes and the Space Advisory Group.

· Increase space research efforts, in particular in breakthrough technologies; · Support the development of alternative technologies to those of competitors; · Promote RD support to industry and space research organisations, including the downstream service sector and support the development of application-oriented RD programmes at universities related to space technologies and promote the transition from prototyping to product and market; · Assess hosted payloads business case, to explore the potential for further institutional and scientific use and identify the best ways to address the challenges ahead such as legal issues, government/military requirements, etc; · Assess other cost-effective launch opportunities in order to embark new technologies to test them; · Use Horizon 2020 to accelerate the implementation of substitutes to raw materials needing replacement such as those listed within the framework of the REACH regulation.

Considers that most of the environmental and sustainability challenges need a response that makes proper use of the scientific and technological knowledge which must be, for that purpose, properly supported by sufficient funding by the Community and Member States; calls for the Commission to deliver a strategy for European Maritime Research and for better coordination and networking of European marine research institutes; to this end strongly endorses the establishment of a "European marine science network", with participation by all relevant European marine research institutes and support from the EU; calls for the knowledge acquired to be entered and stored in a European marine data centre to which all marine research institutes would have access; favours in this context the promotion of a European maritime conference on a regular basis to provide a forum for researchers and industry;
114. is van mening dat de meeste uitdagingen op het vlak van milieu en duurzaamheid een antwoord behoeven waarbij een juist gebruik wordt gemaakt van wetenschappelijke en technologische kennis die voor dat doel op de juiste wijze en met voldoende financiële middelen door de Gemeenschap en de lidstaten dient te worden ondersteund; verzoekt de Commissie een strategie te ontwikkelen voor Europees maritiem onderzoek en voor een betere coördinatie en beter functionerende netwerken van Europese instituten voor marien onderzoek; steunt daarom krachtig de oprichting van een "Europees marien wetenschappelijk netwerk waarin door alle relevante Europese instellingen voor marien onderzoek wordt deelgenomen en dat steun ontvangt van de EU; dringt erop aan dat alle verworven kennis wordt ingevoerd en opgeslagen in een Europese mariene database waartoe alle mariene onderzoeksinstituten toegang hebben; pleit in dit verband voor het instellen van een regelmatig te houden Europese maritieme conferentie om daarmee aan onderzoekers en industrie een forum te bieden;

I had to reply: “Yes, it is true”, for when I took the floor yesterday – and I repeat the request again now – I called for progress to be made in European space research and I mentioned the fact that, in the United States, there was an astronaut, a politician, who went into space at the age of 69, that is when he was a pensioner. I would like there to be a European astronaut, also a politician, who will become an astronaut in 15 years’ time at the age of 69.
Ik moest daarop antwoorden: "Ja, dat is waar", want gisteren heb ik er in mijn toespraak voor gepleit dat het Europees ruimteonderzoek de nodige stappen vooruit zet, en net zoals er in de Verenigde Staten een politicus-astronaut is die op 69-jarige leeftijd - dus als gepensioneerde - een tocht door de ruimte heeft gemaakt, zo zou ik graag willen dat een Europese astronaut, ook politicus, op 69-jarige leeftijd astronaut wordt.

– (IT) Mr President, although I do want to congratulate Mr Konstantinos Alyssandrakis on his extremely comprehensive report, I have to say that, on this occasion, the Commission, in particular, and this final report have not been bold enough as regards the European space research initiative.
- (IT) Mijnheer de Voorzitter, alhoewel ik Konstantinos Alyssandrakis van harte gelukwens met zijn volledige verslag moet ik toch bij deze gelegenheid naar voren brengen dat de Commissie, zoals ook uit haar mededeling blijkt, niet de stoute schoenen heeft durven aantrekken om een Europees initiatief voor ruimteonderzoek te lanceren.
