Different methods can be used to reduce the concentration of H2S in the biogas; either the biogas is cleaned itself, for instance in a scrubber, or a small amount (approximately four percent) of fresh air is added to the biogas in a tank - for instance a covered, gas-tight slurry storage tank - where bacteria at the surface of the slurry take up the H2S.
