Dissolve 865 g of citric acid monohydrate in about 2500 ml of distilled water in a container of about five-litres capacity. Place the container in an ice bath, and add in small amounts, shaking constantly, ammonia solution using a funnel, the stem of which is immersed in the citric acid solution.
