The EU continues to play a full and active role in forging an international consensus and widespread implementation of best practice in financial regulation. Its support for the work of the IASC (International Accounting Standards Committee) to secure a globally accepted set of financial reporting standards that will enhance financial transparency and facilitate the task of financial supervisors is a good example.

Calls on the Commission and the Council to insist on the unrestricted implementation of the acquis communautaire, initially through the exchange of best practice and increased cooperation in all 25 Member States, and, where necessary, to take appropriate measures for its actual implementation; to provide practical support for all Member States falling below the required standards, especially the new ones, by making provision for adequate resources, exchange of best practices and experience, and stronger cooperation; in that connection, calls on the Commission, in cooperation with the Advisory Committee on Safety, Hygiene and Health Protection at Work, to investigate the possibility of introducing a separate open coordination method for health and safety at the workplace;
