The ESC also welcomes the MERCOSUR presidential declaration of fundamental consumer rights, adopted on 15 December 2000, in which the signatory states commit themselves to a series of fundamental rights, such as the right to life, health, and consumer and environmental safety; the provision of public and private services and products under suitable and safe conditions; easier access to judicial and administrative bodies for the protection of individual and collective consumer rights.
