IN-CONTEXT TRANSLATIONS

A new strategy should be guided by the following objectives: to promote peace, stability, democracy, human rights, the rule of law and good governance, inter alia by fighting terrorism and illicit trafficking; to co-operate on fighting poverty, inequality and social exclusion, and on sustainable development, environment protection, and climate change; and to enhance economic interaction and secure a strengthened international economic order.

This is the case, inter alia, for democracy support, which is going to be mainstreamed across a number of objectives; for Economic, Social and Cultural rights; for addressing violation of human rights and international humanitarian law in crises and conflicts; for fighting discrimination, particularly against women, children, persons with disabilities and LGBTI but also against members of religious minorities; for fighting torture and ill-treatment and for increasing the coherence of EU policies from a Human Rights point of view.

The objectives of the EU should include: - the establishment and reinforcement of democratic political institutions which guarantee the rule of law, human rights and fundamental freedoms; - the reinforcement of civil society and the strengthening of non-governmental bodies and cultural and educational institutions; - support for economic stabilization and transition to market economies; - the rebuilding and modernization of energy, water, transport and telecommunications networks; - the development of the private sector, specially smaller firms and the promotion of investments; - the establishment of open, free and normal economic relations between the states of former Yugoslavia; - the participation of the countries concerned in the open international economic system; - the development of trade and cooperation with the European Union and other international partners.
De EU zou onder meer de volgende doelstellingen moeten nastreven : - totstandbrenging en versterking van democratische politieke instellingen die de eerbiediging van de rechtsstaat, de mensenrechten en de fundamentele vrijheden garanderen ; - versterking van de civiele samenleving en versterking van non- gouvernementele organisaties alsmede culturele en educatieve instellingen ; - steun voor economische stabilisering en overgang naar markteconomieën ; - wederopbouw en modernisering van energie-, water-, vervoers- en telecommunicatienetwerken ; - ontwikkeling van de particuliere sector, met name kleine ondernemingen en bevordering van investeringen ; - totstandbrenging van open, vrije en normale economische betrekkingen tussen de Staten van het voormalige Joegoslavië ; - deelneming van de betrokken landen aan het open internationaal economisch bestel ; - ontwikkeling van handel en samenwerking met de Europese Unie en andere internationale partners.
