On 18 December, a few hours before the government of Georgia blew up an anti-fascist monument in the city of Kutaisi, a resolution was tabled in the UN General Assembly condemning efforts to justify Nazism by a number of European countries and EU Member States, such as the Baltic States and others, which acclaim as heroes the members of the fascist gangs of the 'Waffen SS'; at the same time, governments are taking decisions to pull down and dismantle monuments commemorating the anti-fascist resistance and the victory of the peoples.
Op 18 december, enkele uren voordat de regering van Georgië overging tot het opblazen van een anti-fascistisch monument in de stad Koutaisi, werd in de Algemene Vergadering van de VN een resolutie in stemming gebracht, strekkende tot veroordeling van de pogingen tot rechtvaardiging van het nazisme in sommige landen van Europa en EU-lidstaten, zoals o.m. de Baltische landen, waar fascistische bendeleden van de “Waffen-SS” tot helden worden uitgeroepen, en monumenten van het anti-fascistische verzet en de overwinning van de volken krachtens regeringsbesluit worden afgebroken en van hun sokkel gehaald.
