At the current stage of development of national law and of case-law at national and Union level, it is premature to legislate at Union level on the presumption of innocence with regard to legal persons.

It is using this Green Paper to reach out to legal practitioners and people in general in the European Union (EU) in order to ascertain whether the principle of the presumption of innocence and the rights flowing from it are understood in the same way throughout the EU.
