The authorisation of aluminium lakes of riboflavins provides an alternative to aluminium lakes of other yellow colours in foods in which the use of aluminium lakes is authorised.
De toelating van aluminiumlakken op basis van riboflavine verschaft een alternatief voor aluminiumlakken van andere gele kleurstoffen in levensmiddelen waarin het gebruik van aluminiumlakken is toegestaan.

Applications for authorisation of the use of aluminium lakes of riboflavins (E 101) and the extension of use of aluminium lakes of cochineal, carminic acid, carmines (E 120) were submitted in the course of 2013 and have been made available to the Member States pursuant to Article 4 of Regulation (EC) No 1331/2008.

The Authority concluded that riboflavin (E 101(i)) and riboflavin-5′-phosphate sodium (E 101(ii)) are unlikely to be of a safety concern at the currently authorised uses and use levels as food additives.

- encourages the Commission to agree with competent authorities and interested parties on common nomination of substances to be used in labelling (e.g. B2-vitamine or riboflavin), in order to facilitate the functioning of the internal market and to protect consumers;
- dringt er bij de Commissie op aan met bevoegde autoriteiten en betrokkenen overeenstemming te bereiken over een gemeenschappelijke benaming van stoffen die bij de etikettering dient te worden toegepast (bijvoorbeeld B2-vitamine of riboflavin), om de interne markt beter te laten functioneren en de consument te beschermen;

Whereas riboflavin-5'-phosphate has technological advantages in certain circumstances over riboflavin (E 101), already included in Annex I to the Directive;
