Mrs Christiane Scrivener, Commission Member with special responsibility for taxation, customs and consumer policy, today convened the Enterprise Consultation Committee for the fourth time this year.1 The main task of this Committee, set up to monitor at Community level the implementation of the new VAT and excise-duty regime as from 1 January 1993, is to sound out firms regarding both the problems they face in Member States as a result of the reform of indirect taxation and any suggestions they might have for improving particular aspects of the reform.
