IN-CONTEXT TRANSLATIONS

2 committees - one on standards and technical regulations, the other on medical devices - provide advice to the Commission on implementation of the legislation.

Points out that that standards and technical regulations play a crucial role in ensuring that the European Union leads the way in the most innovative sectors, including green technologies; urges the Commission, therefore, to improve cooperation with key third countries – including the emerging countries – with a view to establishing common standards, while respecting the different social preferences associated with those standards;

Stresses that international frameworks for cooperation on standards and technical regulations should remain the preferred option for seeking harmonisation thereof and that all bilateral initiatives should be developed with a view to their multilateralisation, which should also include emerging economies; believes, in this connection, that the EU should continue to improve its environmental requirements and to try and set the most advanced international standards on this basis;

Where a Member State considers that a harmonised standard does not satisfy the essential requirements, the Commission shall bring this to the attention of the Committee on Standards and Technical Regulations which gives an opinion as a matter of urgency.
Ingeval een lidstaat van mening is dat een geharmoniseerde norm niet voldoet aan de fundamentele voorschriften, legt de Commissie de zaak voor aan het Comité "Normen en technische voorschriften".

14. Calls for the removal of all unnecessary barriers to trade between the EU and Turkey, including technical ones such as non-recognition of certification, duplicative testing, duplicative inspections, mandatory technical regulations and standards, in compliance with the WTO; also calls on the Commission to share good practice in this area;
14. dringt aan op het wegnemen, in overeenstemming met de WTO-voorschriften, van alle onnodige handelsbelemmeringen tussen de EU en Turkije, met inbegrip van technische belemmeringen, zoals het niet erkennen van certificatie, dubbele toetsing, dubbele controles en verplichte technische regelgeving en normen; roept daarnaast de Commissie op goede praktijken op dit terrein te delen;
